According to MOFCOM's 2025 country guide, the Suriname government, Newmont and Surgold jointly developed the Merian area from 2016, with Staatsolie holding 25% on behalf of the government. The US Commercial Service identifies Newmont and Zijin's Rosebel as the dominant large-scale gold producers.
