GranMorgu (Block 58)

Suriname's first offshore oil development: the Sapakara and Krabdagu fields on Block 58, produced through a 220,000 barrels-per-day FPSO. Final investment decision 1 October 2024; first oil expected in 2028.

Final investment decision

TotalEnergies announced the final investment decision on 1 October 2024. The development covers the Sapakara and Krabdagu discoveries made in 2023, about 150 km offshore in water depths of 100 to 1,000 metres, with recoverable reserves estimated at over 750 million barrels.

The FPSO has a capacity of 220,000 barrels of oil per day and uses an all-electric configuration with zero routine flaring and reinjection of associated gas, according to TotalEnergies Suriname.

TotalEnergies stated at FID that Paramaribo would serve as the hub for administrative and logistics activities, with local companies participating in logistics, well services and the installation and operation of subsea systems and the FPSO. It estimated local content at more than US$1 billion and more than 6,000 jobs in Suriname.

Industry reporting in September 2026 described the project as on track for first output in mid-2028.

Analysis

Supply-chain demand concentrates on Paramaribo-based logistics, customs, marine and shore-base services, well services support, and subsea/FPSO installation support. Most of it is procured through operator and tier-1 contractor prequalification rather than open tenders — registration on the SSRP is the entry point, partnership with a prequalified firm is often the fastest route.
